Artisan Information

A beautifully etched Surin silver bead is surrounded by two strands of onyx beads and smaller silver beads. The stunning necklace is adorned with matching pillow-shaped Surin silver beads eched by hand with traditional designs. Garnets and freshwater pearls hang from the silver chain on these delicate earrings.

Surin silver is 0.925 grade. Necklace is 19 inches long and the earrings hang 1.5 inches from Sterling silver hooks.

Silversmiths in Surin, northeastern Thailand use simple tools to create distinctive beads from pure silver. The decorative patterns are hand-etched onto the surface of each bead. This painstaking intricate process, from the centuries-old Khmer Angkor kingdom , survives in only one small community.
