Brothers Dioss and Issa Ly live at their gallery and workshop in Thies, Senegal, which is about 2 hours from the capital of Dakar. Art is truly a family business as their father, Samba Ly, makes his living selling his own oil paintings while their mother sells crafts.
Painting together since 1998, Dioss and Issa have learned to capture the brilliant colors and fluid beauty of the people of West Africa. They depict in painting the dignity and vibrancy of life from one of the least developed regions in the world.

In Zimbabwe, the simplest task is complex with hyperinflation and fuel rationing, yet craftspeople in Harare manage to produce colorful tin animals and insects out of recycled cans, steel wire and beads and Mbiras, also called finger pianos. This type of art is often referred to as slum art as the artisans work independently in their homes, which are often located in the slums.
To help bring these unique items to western markets, Murenga Arts and Crafts coordinates the work and ensures that Fair Trade practices are in place and payments are made so the artisans can experience a sustainable livelihood in the midst of an unpredictable economy.

NAWOU, The National Association of Womens Organizations in Uganda, is a non-governmental organization representing over 1000 groups of women in Uganda. The organization provides the women of rural Uganda with a network where they can discuss issues of their communities and offers a consolidated presence throughout the country and the world.
Uganda is an agrarian culture, with most crafts made from vegetable matter including raffia grass and fiber from the banana plant. The women of the country are often the breadwinners of the family and spend much of their day weaving baskets to sell in the local and international markets. Their profits from the sale of crafts are used to provide the basics for their families, including food, health care, and education.
The women are proud of their tightly woven coil baskets and are still amazed that people around the world want to own them.
